Bobby Darin, Jack Lawrence & The Bearcats

Back in the ice age when my wife and I had our engagement party, we had Beyond The Sea as our main dance. When I first met my wife she used to listen to Oasis and The Happy Mondays (she hails from just outside Manchester if you're wondering). But upon meeting me and hearing Bobby Darin frequently, she was hooked as badly as I was.

To me, Bobby was the greatest live stage performer Las Vegas and the USA has ever seen. His sense of timing and rhythm was exceptional - you only learn this as you try to sing along or play backing piano to his lyrics as the band pushes on.

I have added a link to Darin Land on the left here, which is a great site for all fans and lovers of Bobby Darin.

I also have two long overdue "thank yous" to make publicly: my father is great friends with the one and only Jack Lawrence - thank you Jack for the wonderful lyric to the originally French song La Mer. You made Beyond The Sea truly special along with Bobby Darin. And thank you to Joe Hanlon and The Bearcats for playing Beyond The Sea at our party - the rendition remains special to both my wife and me. Thank you.

PS. Here's a bit of Joe Hanlon and The Bearcats! Enjoy!

From The Hart at The New End Theatre

Richard Rodgers and Lorenz HartI went to a great new show last night. My wife happened to chat with the director of From The Hart, a revue of the life and times and music of Lorenz Hart. It's in previews and with good reviews will be running through the summer at The New End Theatre.

Boy did Rogers & Hart write some songs: The Lady Is A Tramp... My Funny Valentine...Bewitched, Bothered & Bewildered, and of course, the song Lorenz Hart hated most: Blue Moon!

The singing is fabulous as is the acting and, well you can't beat the music. They just don't write music like this now.
